In my experience, we tend to come to therapy when we feel 'stuck' in a way of living that is becoming increasingly painful and hard to sustain. Whatever your age or circumstances, my existential approach to therapy will provide you with a safe place in which to explore and process any trauma in your past; pain in the present and anxiety about the future. Helping you to practice self-acceptance; bring the 'real you' out of hiding and find a more joyful and authentic way of living.
About me and my practice
I bring a strongly existential outlook to my life inside and outside the therapy room, staunch in my belief in Albert Camus' view that 'Life is the sum of all of our choices.'
Simply put, existential therapy provides an opportunity to explore what it means to be alive and to find a way of living at peace with ourself and all the challenges and opportunities life presents - before it's too late. In the words of Brazilian poet Mario Andrade:'Each of us has two lives and the second one starts when we realise we only have one.'
I have a non-directive, client-led approach and am committed to creating a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic environment, in which you can explore the issues that brought you to therapy and choose your own way forward.
Experience
I have particular experience in working with people who have experienced significant trauma including physical, psychological and sexual abuse, whether in childhood or as an adult.
Working at relational depth, I will help you examine any feelings of shame, guilt or unworthiness and support you to find ways to release yourself from any control the past still exerts on your present and future.
When working with trauma,I share Carl Jung's view that, 'We are not what happened to us, we are who we choose to become.'
